Toyota 1000Km Desert Race 2002 - Close Shave
African off-road motor sport is less safety-conscious than this kind of event would be in Europe or the USA. Here is a sequence of photos from an incident that could have been messy.

This year, the narrow, hidden left turn from a fast, smooth section was a bit earlier than in previous years. The old turn is beyond the parked spectators' cars.

If you are interested in purchasing licenses to reproduce the higher-resolution (1100 x 700 pixels approx) versions of any of my images, please e-mail me .

I doubt if any of this set of images is good enough to sell, but I shall be posting better ones from this race in at least one more article.

Oops! We'll never make a tight left turn now....
Good thing that VW Golf was parked to one side. Now let's back out and turn round....
Nice three-pointer. Do I pass my driving test?
Let's get out of here!
Spectator moves to a safer parking place.
