Toyota 1000Km Desert Race 2002 - boneshaker and car wrecker
It is quite normal for two-thirds of the pack to drop out, most of them on the first day. Surprisingly perhaps, people don't often get hurt (except that most drivers suffer back problems by the time they quit the sport).

A nut came undone, then the trouble started.
Blood groups are painted on the door. In this country, the paramedics know which driver is which.
This guy DID get round the corner, but I couldn't hold the camera still!
Left rear wheel is tearing up the dirt. You steer these things like a tractor, with separate left and right wheel braking.
Soft sand. Middle of the car scrapes the ridge.
Look at the long, soft front springs.

Kia Sportage is a small 4x4, but this one is quick.
Bikes are the fastest things round this course. They go round corners better.
But a Land Cruiser at speed can be more impressive.
