Etape 10 - A living story, and more pictures

by Mike K-H

First, here's the answer to the photo quiz in Etape 9.

I photographed this farrier shoeing a horse in Gaborone, but his home is in South Africa and he is away from home for a month at a time. When his son decided that he wanted to follow in father's tracks, father sent him to do a veterinary degree first. Children of the current generation will need everything they can get in order to succeed in an increasingly competitive world with no promise of jobs for life.

An exceptional selection of accommodation

Quite a few people ask me to post links to their accommodation booking web sites. I've chosen this one because it carries a small selection of exceptional places, all beautifully photographed. Parisby.com is the Paris page, and Rivieraby.com covers the French Riviera, but if you follow the main link on the right of this page you can admire similar selections for Italy, London, Amsterdam, Venice. Even if you have no intention of booking accommodation anywhere at the moment, go take a look at the pictures.

The man who bought his village bar

I'm indebted to George East for introducing me to one of the real-life characters that make it easier for him to write his books. By now you should have read the first instalment of the diary of John Harries-Harris. I should  be publishing a new episode roughly once a week, giving you the latest news of a project that is in progress right now.

John and his family all seem very capable and adaptable, but that doesn't mean everything will go smoothly. I'm only one step ahead of you, and I already have reason to laugh and to say 'that could easily have been me....'

Have fun.
